Nord is a solo piece for three organs: a Dutch, a Finnish and a French one. I traveled to visit them and to discover their differences and their own qualities. Every organ is unique, its sound has a strong role in the identity of the place and its huge body becomes part of the architecture.
The first time I have heard a Great Organ, I was impressed by the fact that it looked as if it was sounding by itself and the sound filled every single corner of the church. With the electronics I wanted to create the same feeling, so Nord is a journey from a wide space without human presence to an intimate “chant” of the organ.

Nord is een solostuk voor drie orgels: in Holland, Finland en Frankrijk.
Ik reisde ernaartoe om ze te bezoeken en de onderlinge verschillen en specifieke kenmerken te kunnen observeren. Elk orgel is uniek; het geluid beïnvloedt de identiteit van het gebouw en de enorme kast wordt onderdeel van de architectuur.
De eerste keer dat ik het grote orgel hoorde was ik onder de indruk omdat het geluid elke uithoek van de kerk vulde. Ik wilde dat de elektronica hetzelfde gevoel zou opwekken.
Nord is een onderzoekingstocht die begint in een weidse ruimte, zonder menselijke aanwezigheid, en eindigt met een intiem ‘gezang’ van het orgel.
Ik wil Gaudeamus, Time of Music en de Fondation Royaumont bedanken omdat ze dit project mogelijk hebben gemaakt.
